On this Tuesday edition of the Alex Jones Show, Alex talks with Ed Foster, the mayor of Quartzite, Arizona. Foster was ousted by the city council and replaced by the town’s police chief. The far western Arizona town is now under martial law after the council declared an open-ended state of emergency in response to a video of the arrest of Jennifer Jones during a council meeting. Foster described the government and the chief of police as corrupt and abusive of their power.

QUARTZSITE, AZ – Dozens of residents gathered at the Quartzsite City Hall Tuesday, anxious to find out what’s going on with their local politicians.

“I want to see open government, not running behind locked doors like they did on Sunday,” Quartzsite Mayor Ed Foster said.

Foster claims the town council met in an illegal closed door meeting on Sunday to kick him out of office after he called for investigations into city staff.

“They don’t think I should have freedom of speech,” Foster said.

We’ve written about the goings-on in Quartzsite Arizona, including the YouTube video showing the arrest of a local woman who was authorized by the mayor to speak at a recent town council meeting. Now the council has ousted Mayor Ed Foster from power and declared a state of emergency.

Mayor Foster asserts that the town council held a last-minute meeting that was closed to the public — in violation of the open meetings law — Sunday night, after declaring a state of emergency in the 3,600-person western Arizona town.

Compounding matters, the council issued a declaration putting controversial police Chief Jeff Gilbert in charge. Foster referred to the act as making him the “deputy chief executive of nothing right now.” The declaration also allows the five-member council to meet without public notice and suspend all public comment at the meetings until they declare the state of emergency over.

The videos have gotten thousands of views and have people near and far sending messages of support to Foster and messages of outrage to the council. Foster’s supporters have launched a Facebook pageand website.

Foster was elected in May 2010 on a campaign promise to investigate allegations of corruption in the La Paz County town.

He said since being in office, he has discovered that every pay period, eight to 10 paychecks go to unnamed people and that he has been denied access to financial records to find out where the money actually goes. He said that’s been happening since 1991 and amounts to $250,000 every year. “That’s literally millions of dollars,” Foster said.

Jennifer Jones: Police Chief Declares Martial Law

Alex continues his conversation with Jennifer Jones, the Arizona woman who was arrested for daring to speak her mind during a city hall meeting in the town of Quartzsite.

Quartzsite Police Chief Jeff Gilbert has asked the town council to declare a “state of emergency” due to all of the publicity the town has received over the arrest of a reporter at an open meeting in June.

The town council voted 5-0 in favor of the action; Mayor Ed Foster did not attend the emergency meeting Sunday afternoon. Gilbert reportedly said the action was needed because Jennifer Jones was “inciting riots” after videos of her arrest at the meeting sprung up across the Internet.

It was not immediately clear what outside assistance, if any, Gilbert seeks to enforce the state of emergency. http://www2.az-independent.com/?p=4582

Jennifer "Jade" Jones -- had her elbow injured (hospitalized) during outrageous and mysterious arrest - disorderly conduct - during peaceful statements at public podium during a town council meeting. Jones had the floor. Police chief Jeff Gilbert (positioned at wall) was directly involved. Many in Quartzsite do not understand why this police chief is not under suspension because Arizona State Dept of Public Safety is already investigating him for criminal accusations by officers in his department. Presiding officer of the meeting (Mayor) could not dissuade police from their mission. Many suspect conspiracy between police chief and council members, other than the mayor.
